Paul Fletcher’s artwork begins with careful observation of the world around him, drawn to the smallest details while considering broader connections, interconnections, and relationships. With a background spanning horticulture, permaculture, teaching, and media art, he brings a multidisciplinary approach to his practice.
Paul has facilitated numerous community projects focused on animation and sound, including initiatives at Tarnagulla, Lockwood South, and Echuca South Schools. Over his 20-year teaching career at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), he also curated several exhibitions featuring animation and music students.
He values art as a catalyst for creativity and imagination, essential tools for problem-solving in the repair of country, addressing climate change, and strengthening societal structures. His work fosters connections between people and place, drawing inspiration from ideas, emotions, and philosophy. With a focus on multisensory engagement, he creates works that invite playful interaction across diverse ages and backgrounds. His practice spans images, objects, sound, music, animation, video, and various mixed-media forms suited to each project.
The Pump House Artist in Residency Program presents an opportunity for Paul to further develop, ground, and share these ideas and methods within the communities and landscapes of Dhungala, Banyula State Forest, Yakoa, and Kaiela.
