Matt McMillan isn’t just cutting hair, he’s carving out culture in the heart of Rochester. Known as The Town Barber, Matt brings more than sharp fades and clean shaves to his chair; he brings conversation, connection and creativity. A graduate of Victoria University’s barbering program, he returned to his hometown with clippers in hand and community on his mind.
When he’s not crafting fresh cuts, Matt’s shaping bigger visions. As a driving force in the Ripple Fest Creative Co-Design group, he’s helping reimagine what community looks and feels like through art, music and shared experiences. A passionate advocate for youth expression, he’s championed the idea of a legal graffiti wall at the Rochy Skate Park, a space where street art can thrive and young voices can be heard loud and proud.
From barbershop banter to grassroots change, Matt’s work is all about celebrating local identity, sparking creativity and making sure everyone, no matter their style, feels part of the story.
